Question: Hi, I'm a 5'3 24 year old female, I weigh 79.8kg and I've been trying to lose weight this year. My starting weight was 90kg, and I've been able to lose the weight from February this year to either March or May, though that leaves for at least 5 months of watching my weight fluctuate between 79kg to 83kg. This year has been the most active I've ever been in my life; I've been hiking mountains, going on hours long walks, jogging and I've also been eating healthily. Not only that, but from this time last year I've been fitted for a 14 D sized bra, but now that I've been refitted I'm a 14 E. I don't understand why I would gain two sizes since last year when I haven't been living a sedentary lifestyle, and that I've lost weight since being 90kg. I'm not pregnant, I haven't had a baby, and I haven't had sexual intercourse for years now, so there's no chance of me being pregnant. Could me struggling to lose weight and my increased breast size be issues relating to each other, and could they both be because of an hormonal imbalance?

INCREASED BREAST SIZE AND WEIGHT GAIN

Detailed Answer:
Hi...
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

Breast size depends on many factors like.....

Age
Height
Weight
Family history
Exercise routine
Menstruation
Sexual activity
Contraception
Pregnancy Status
Lactation
and
Hormonal balance.

I think that determination of breast size is multi factorial and there are no specific clues to indicate a hormonal imbalance in you..
A hormonal imbalance is usually associated with symptoms like menstrual irregularities (heavy, irregular or painful periods),excess body hair, mood disturbances, hot flashes and flushes, night sweats, weak and brittle bones, vaginal dryness, tender breasts, acne and stomach upset etc.
Kindly share,if you have any of such symptoms.

You have been struggling to lose weight.
It may be due to many reasons.

Firstly, your goals should be realistic and feasible.
Secondly,a weight lost fast is regained fast.
So be slow and steady in your attempts.

You need to make some dietary and life style modifications to lose weight.

1.Have a rich fiber diet full of raw vegetables and fruits.
2.Be de stressed.
Stress releases catecholamines which promote central obesity.
3.Be well hydrated.
4.Continue to do physical exercises.

Change your exercise schedule regularly.
The muscles become used to specific exercises very fast.

5.Have a protein added diet.
6.Avoid sugar,refined carbs,bakery,red meat,organ meat,junk food and carbonated drinks.
7.Have commercially available multivitamin and omega3 supplements.
8.Have probiotics.
9.Avoid alcohol.
10.Have black coffee and green tea to kick start your metabolism.
11.Take frequent small healthy meals instead of three large major meals.
That would continue to keep your BMR up.
12.Avoid fatty and greasy meals.

You can join some weight reduction programme and can take the help of professional trainers, physical instructors, counselors and dieticians.
A reduction in weight would definitely improve your overall appearance.
If that does not happen, you can take an endocrinologist in the loop.

Hope that I have answered your query.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.
