Question: Hi,

I gave Birth to My Daughter February 1, 2019
It was a C Section and I lost a lot of blood because they said My uterus did not tighten and I then needed a blood transfusion. They had to put a balloon in after and packing to stop the bleeding.
A month later I was having bleeding more than usual (I had slight blood from C Section) This was heavier and I felt urine smelled different too.
I asked Doctor to come in and see if it was My Period or something else. She said she wasn't concerned but did say it was more blood than usual 6 Weeks after having a C Section.
I then went back a week later because of cramping and bleeding. They then said I had Placenta left in me. I was sent to the ER because they said I might need a D and C or Hysterectomy.
Later that night in the Hospital a Tennis size amount of Placenta came out of me. They did an MRI and said there was still a little piece on my left side.
My Doctor even said it was like giving Birth again because I became so dialted to pass the Placenta that size that they left in.
One question I have is if after the C Section My Uterus didn't tighten enough and I lost so much blood shouldn't they have checked that all Placenta was removed especially before putting balloon and packing in?
Is it More rare to have Placenta left in after a Section?
I was also told when I left the ER that I had Strep B and just finished Amoxicylin.

She is 35 years old and when she had other first baby naturally 28 weekss ago. They used forceps and ripped her apart. She went to doctors several time the following week telling them she did not know when she was having bowel movements and didn't feel right. She Saw 2 of them that week (one who delivered and was on call at hospital the 2nd time she went to ER the evening after seeing him and told her because she had big baby and he saw her in the morning and is not coming to ER to see her)
.
Her baby son was 8 pounds 7 ounces.

At ER They found a bad UTI gave her meds and then she still didn't feel right. They said very bad UTI. One thing led to another and they admitted her to hospital when her baby was 8 days old. They found that she was ripped,
her spleen was enlarged (which she found out the other day is still enlarged after having abdominal MRI. She has fatty liver ) .

In hospital checked her heart and then checked again and thank goodness whatever they were looking for in her heart was okay. She had kidney problem. Things were so bad they kept in hospital for 6 days when her baby was just 8 days old.

Brief Answer:
YOur question is not clear!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have read through this question but something isn't clear.

1.. YOur age is 63 as stated in the beginning and generally not compatible with childbirth. Is there something we are missing out on or are you asking on behalf of someone else?

2. Absolutely correct. Examining the placenta after delivery is standard and even more mandatory if you are bleeding. I can't believe they never did an ultrasound at least to tell that something was wrong with the uterus.

3. As long as the placenta stays in, you would cramp and bleed. They need to get it out as soon as possible.

4. What precisely do you want me to comment on about the lady with UTI after delivery? This isn't clear.

Hope to hear back from you on clarifications and areas you need specific responses to as your question is a bit not very clear.

I wish you well!

Kind regards

Sorry, I am sorry it didn't come out correct.

Your answer is what I was looking for it is regarding my 35 year old daughter. Sorry, I was afraid I made it too complicated

They still did not take all of the placenta out. it is still partly there.

She had a blood clot the size of a grapefruit (I can send picture) come out of her when she was in hospital a week ago after vaginal ultrasound.

They still have not gotten back pathology report but say that it was the placenta . However, the placenta still isn't all out. They gave her a vaginal pill as they called it hoping it would get rid of what was left.

She is not getting another ultra sound until April 9 .

They were talking hysterectomy. They mentioned hysterectomy the night her baby was born when 2 hours later she was bleeding profusely and had to have several blood transfusions They told her that her uterus did not tighten as it should.
Gave her a balloon which stopped the bleeding

They told her the clot dilated her so they cannot check with a camera yet

Thank you for your prompt answer .

None of the doctors we have seen or know could believe they left placenta in.

Is this dangerous? She feels okay and not bleeding.

Kindest regards,

Melanie

Brief Answer:
It happens rarely!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

At this stage, hysterectomy is not an option. No one would perform hysterectomy for such an indication. Follow up with the doctors and they should manage this accordingly. Just follow up with them and there is no point being too aggressive at this time.

In all, just be patient. I believe they will follow through with this and resolve if fully.

Thank you again for your prompt reply

Is this a dangerous situation?

What are the options for getting the entire placenta out?

Does it seem appropriate for the doctors to wait so
Long to do ultrasound ? It is scheduled for 3 weeks from the time this situation was discovered

March 19 discovered placenta not totally removed

Ultrasound scheduled for April 9

Baby born February 1

I so appreciate your help.

Thank you

Besypt,

Melanie

I have attached a photo of the blood clot that came out of my daughter on March 20.

They say this is "part" of placenta. No pathology yet.

Thank you again!

Brief Answer:
It's okay to not be overly aggressive at this time!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It's okay not to be overly aggressively. Like you said, appears she was given some insertive pills to help with uterine contraction and expulsion of residual uterine content. Repeating the ultrasound too soon will make no difference as her life is not in danger. Aggressiveness might lead to unnecessary invasive procedures at this time.

I have reviewed the attached image. Highly suggestive of placenta remnants but will let pathology report make the ultimate call.

I wish you well. Feel free to keep me updated as the case may be!!

One more thing

How do they know still placenta in there after clot came out without ultrasound?

Thank you
doctor
Answered by Dr. Chobufo Ditah (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
From MRI!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Remember an MRI was done. This is also good at telling whether there are unexpected products in the uterus or not. Follow up ultrasounds would tell whether there is still some or completely expelled after ongoing management.
