Hi Dr., On 9/24, I Went To My Dermatologist ,
On 9/24, I went to my dermatologist, who did a biopsy of a mole on my back. He said to just shower as normal and the wound would heal in about a week. It is now a week and a half later, and it does not look healed but rather perhaps infected. I have attached some pictures for your help in diagnosis. After reviewing them, do you think it is infected? If so, what should I do? Do I require professional help or antibiotic prescriptions? Thank you in advance.
Infected wound
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and viewed the image.
Yes, certainly it seems infected. I can see a dirty yellow slough covering the base of biopsy site with surrounding redness.
I suggest you to take an oral antibiotic e.g either Amoxicillin + Clavulanic acid Pr Cephalexin, three times a day for a week.
In addition I suggest you to use a topical antibiotic e.g either Betadine solution or Neosporin ointment or Mupirocin 2% ointment, twice a day for a few days.
You need to talk to your Primary care physician for a prescription of oral and topical antibiotic medications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.
