Question: Hi Dr: I found a white patch on my tongue and wanted to get your opinion. Here are some quick facts:

52 year Old Male
I do not smoke or chew tobacco but I do smoke pot
8 Years ago I did have a small white lesion removed that was pre cancer but it did not look like this
It is a white patch with no redness, no borders and is soft
Can you please provide your opinion if it looks like oral cancer or something less dangerous?
Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Can be oral candidiasis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have seen the attached images. The white patch that you have noticed on the tongue can an oral fungal infection like candida.
This should improve with topical application of clotrimazole gel. In case the lesion is persistent or increases in size then you need a direct examination by a dentist to rule out any abnormal growth.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
