Brief Answer:
What HIV test is being ordered?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

There are different types of test that is used to detect HIV. Commonly used ones are antibody detection tests - rapid tridot, Elisa and Westernblot. If these are used and you have had history of risky exposure, yes the test should be repeated after 3 months.

Other tests such as P24 combo test and PCR techniques are more sensitive and can rule out infection before 3 months.

So what test was performed? You can upload reports if you have it incase you do not know the test performed.

Brief Answer:
Was there an exposure???

Detailed Answer:
I went through the reports and my comments are as follows:

1. Lymphocyte count is marginally elevated. This elevation is of no major significance as all other blood counts are under control and if the patient is not symptomatic. If there are symptoms, let me know. It will help me understand the relevance.

2. The test performed is antibody detection test done by Elisa method. The report is conclusive if the patient had no exposure or the exposure was more than 3 months old. So let me know if there was any kind of exposure which can put the patient to a risk of HIV infection.

Awaiting your response....

Hi Doctor, thank you for your insights. im not sure what are the symptoms i should be looking for, i do have a slight siin rash on my waist, which a dermatologist looked into and said it could be due to excessive sweating , since i work out at the gym . And in regardsbto exposure, i had a sexual encounter in the month of July and in the month of March. Apart from that i don't think any other symptoms that i can think off. i am attaching an image of my skin rash as well

Brief Answer:
No pictures...

Detailed Answer:
I do not see pictures of rashes here. However the rash may not be related to elevated lymphocytes. Nor does it have direct relation to HIV. HIV initially presents as fever, body aches, weakness and so on just like any usual infection. It may be related to sweating as the dermatologist suggested.

Today's negative test practically rules out HIV from March encounter. However the latest encounter in the month of July was too early and a negative result doesn't absolutely rule out HIV. You need to get a repeat test done in the month of September / December (3-6 months duration).

Hope I am clear. Let me know if you need clarifications.
