Hey Doctor So I Have Had What I Think Is

Question: Hey doctor so I have had what I think is a fungal infection on my penis glans and foreskin. My symptoms are redness on the glans and foreskin of the penis along with white flakes coming out of the foreskin. I was using Canesten Anti-fungal Cream at night time before bed for about a week however I stopped yesterday night as my symptoms where gone. I also had applied it two nights ago and woke up with this dry red rash on the left side of the foreskin that felt almost like a cut and wasn’t there before using the cream which is why I decided to stop it. Since then the rash has still been there only a day however and I’ve had the white flaking come back on the foreskin in general and an aching pain at the tip of my penis after peeing. Do you think the fungal infection has come back possibly or has it turned into a bacterial infection? I’m also currently overseas until Monday and have about two days of flying where I won’t be able to apply the cream over the weekend to get back home on the Monday. Do you think it would be okay to wait until then to see my doctor and see how it goes instead of applying the cream still especially after it caused that rash? I’ve also had a history over the last 3 months of getting fungal infections on my penis and I a really unsure as to why that’s the case I’ve also had Fluconazole 150mg tablet that seemed to clear it a lot better than the cream with less side effects but I won’t be able to get that until I get back home could I wait until then and see how it goes do you think could it possibly get better on its own?

Brief Answer:
Regarding yeast infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and noted your concern.

You seem to have a yeast infection. It can present as diffuse redness of prepuce and glans along with moist white deposits, red bumps on glans and cracks or fissures along the rim of prepuce and under foreskin. The fact that you have had recurrent episodes of it in the past entails the need to check for blood sugar levels as raised levels predispose to recurrent yeast infection of glans and prepuce. Oral fluconazole 150mg tablet would be a better option for a persisting yeast infection despite using the antifungal cream.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Can reccurrent infections be a sign of diabetes is they why blood sugar levels should be checked? I have been tested in the past for it and it came out negative and I don’t really have any symptoms of diabetes but it sounds like it’s worth doing again would there be any other reason I’d be getting it could I be getting it from my partner? She says she’s doesn’t have any symptoms so I am unsure and I always wear protection. My main concern is if it can wait until I get back home on Monday which is only 3 days from now do you think that would be okay or should I visit a doctor while overseas?

Brief Answer:
Regarding yeast infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
You can wait for the lab test till you get back to your own place. There is no urgency but do check it again. Recurrent yeast infection is quite common in diabetes. Partner co- infection is also quite common but with protection there are much less chances.
Take care
