Question: Hey doctor,

I recently purchased this digestive enzyme which I have linked below:

https://au.iherb.com/pr/Houston-Enzymes-TriEnza-180-Capsules/43336?gclsrc=aw.ds&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpq7-4f_34QIVQpWPCh15ww_HEAUYASABEgKE9_D_BwE

and attached images of with in it. I’ve had stomach problems for a couple of years now and have done tests where I was diagnosed with IBS/functional Dyspepsia. Mainly I have epigastric pains, bloating and upset bowels. I just tried the enzymes tonight I had two capsule before dinner as recommend on the back of the bottle but I was just wondering how safe these are to have is there any issues having them side effects wise and anything long term as well? Can they reduce the amount of natural enzymes my pancreas produces could that cause issues if I were to be on them for while could that cause problems with my pancreas is there any harm in just trying these? I just want to be sure before trying them any longer thanks in advance.

Are the ingredients of this particular supplement all plant based as well or are some of them animal based? I just don’t really trust animal based enzymes from overseas especially with mad cow disease etc could that be an issue with this particular supplement and what sort of symptoms would I get it if it were an issue?

Hi and thank you for asking!

You are reporting to have been diagnosed with IBS/Functional dyspepsia and it may explain your symptoms like bloating, epigastric pain and upset bowel.

First of all, I need to know if you have done upper and lower endoscopy and results.

With regards to enzyme use, It will help to digest and to produce less amount of abdominal gas.
It is useful, especially in food intolerance cases.
Don't worry it has no side effects because your dosage is not high, it only helps to digest food better.

Otherwise, if were your treating doctor I would recommend doing:
-Abdominal ultrasound
-Upper endoscopy
-Colonoscopy

Hope it was helpful to you.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hey doctor I’ve already done all of those tests thus how I got my diagnosis no further tests where needed. I was more so worried about the enzymes and if they might have some unwanted side effects that might make things worse. So there isn’t really much of a downside to trying them out? Did you know much about the ingredients in there and if they were plant or animal based?

One thing I also tend to get is this ache like pain in the upper right side of my back after eating I don’t get it all the time but it gets triggered usually if I overeat like the other night I had quite a large meal with a lot of vegetables like brocli, green beans, potatoes, carrot and mushrooms with a side of chicken and I felt like I ate too much and started getting the pain in the upper right side side of my back along with epigastric pain and feeling really full. What do you think that could be I’ve had it ever since I started having my digestives problems as well.

Hi back and sorry for my late

-With regards to your symptoms like pain in upper right side especially after meal it is mostly related with GERD( gatsroesophageal reflux disease).
this is why I asked you about upper endoscopy result.
- Trienza digestive enzyme is a plant enzymes derived from Aspergillus fungi mostly.
It doesn't have side effect except allergy from Aspergillus fungi.
It will improve you digestion.
You are asking about FD guard and I can say that are really different from each other.
FD Guard contains L- menthol and improve abdominal discomfort and functional dyspepsia.

Thanks for that doc well I started those enzymes on Thursday and I don’t know if it’s a coincidence. So Thursday night I had this really calorie dense burger which was a Wagyu beef burger that had lettuce, bun, tomato, bacon and the beef XXXXXXX usually I wouldn’t eat that sort of thing but I wanted to try it with the enzyme, but ever since then I’ve had this painful ache pain on the left side under my rib cage but I also went to the gym that day too so I am unsure if I injured myself and it’s causing pain or maybe damaged a muscle causing the symptoms? But I’ve also had bad reflux, nausea and it just hasn’t gone away only gotten worse and I’m struggling to eat what can I do now and what do you think it could be? Could I’ve either injured myself from the gym, had a reaction to the enzyme or maybe got gastritis/reflux from the burger? I’ve now just been eating plain simple foods including rice, chicken and vegetables in the hopes my stomach will calm down.

Brief Answer:
GERD

Detailed Answer:
Hi back...
You are reporting to have had qbdominal pain after a large and hipercaloric burger.
Your symptoms may be related with GERD after burger.
It is a fatty and fried food and it aggravates the symptoms of GERD and IBS too.
In such cases enzymes can't avoid reflux and it's symptoms.

In cases of gym injure your skin colour will change and the pain will be more intense during physical activity.

To my opinion you should start treatment for acid reflux disease with Prilosec and antacids.
It is important to avoid large amount of meal, fatty and spicy food, avoid coffee and chocolate , use two pillows when you lay down.

Wish you fast relief!

Thanks for that doc just one thought thought is it possible that instead of gerd it may be a low functioning gallbladder? I do get these spasms on the right side where it’s located along with the ache/stabbing pain in the upper right side of my back that I was talking about after eating. I did have an ultrasound when I was having those endosopcys which showed no gallstones but that ultrasound woundn’t check how well it’s functioning right you’d need a Hida scan? I also have a family history of gallbladder problems especially with my mum also.

If let’s say hypothetically it did turn out to be my gallbladder causing all these digestive issues the only real treatment is either wait and see or surgery right? And having surgery can come with a whole other host of problems such as bile reflux I’ve read quite a lot about that happening? With my age only being 21 as well is it quite young for this sort of thing to occur?

And yes I have been on PPI’s and numerous other acid blockers and they always make my symptoms 10 times worse so I have not been on them for over a year.

Brief Answer:
Repeat US

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!

If you have done ultrasound more than 6 months ago , you need to repeat it.
We don't reccomend surgery for gallbladder or sphyncter oddi dysfunction.
We recommend it only in gallblader stones or other issues

otherwise we discussed last time for your left abdominal pain and not right.
If the pain is on the right side than you should repeat abdominal oltrasound and if needed HIDA scan.
Sometimes biliary reflux to stomach may cause similar symptoms.
I am waiting for recently US report.

Hope it was helpful to you.
