Question: Hello my girl friend has hyperthyroidism. I don't know what kind of foods she cannot eat other than low iodine diet, because I don't know what foods have iodine or not and when I search online every where is giving different answers to what foods you could consume or not consume. I would like to make her some vegetable soup and wondering if the ingredients that I want to use will be any issues?

I would like to include the following ingredients:
Potato
Tomato
Celery
Chicken
Garlic
Corn

Instead you may use broccoli, cowl flowers, XXXXXXX mushrooms, chickpeas etc.
Always remember to use non-iodized salt.

Brief Answer:
It cant be said not to be consumed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
It cant be said that can't be consumed because they don't contain iodine.
They are better advised in Hypothyroidism because people suffering from Hypothyroidism also contain low magnesium and tomatoes contain a good amount of magnesium.
The page you suggested advices tomatoes consumption in hyperthyroidism for its antioxidant effects.
So as a conclusion the data about tomatoes consumption are not much clear but can't be said are not allowed to be consumed.
