Hello Dr., Yesterday, I Was Using A Hammer With A

Question: Hello Dr.,
Yesterday, I was using a hammer with a wooden handle for an extended period of time. Once I was finished, I realized the friction of the hammer caused blister like damage. It is quite painful, and in the spot where my finger naturally bends.
Do you have any advice for how to care for the wound? Does it need to be treated like a burn? Or a blister? Should I wear a bandage around it? Should I add something like aquaphor?
I am attaching a picture so you can better advise. Thank you in advance.

Brief Answer:
Treat as a blister.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I have reviewed your information and the attached image. This is already a ruptured blister. It is small and the goal is about controlling pain and preventing infection. This entails cleansing the area and avoid frequent contact with water to keep it dry and accelerate healing. Also, applying Bacitracin ointment daily would hep prevent infections. For pain, Tylenol or Ibuprofen as needed is advised. In future, avoid exposing the hands to such shear forces that can cause blisters and wounds.

I hope this guides and helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if more details are required. Also, keep me updated with the progress.
