Question: Hello Dr. I am a 55-year-old female massage therapist. 19 years ago I had a bladder sling procedure where cadaver tissue was made into a hammock for my bladder. It sometimes takes time emptying my bladder but it has been a very successful fix for a leaky bladder problem. I drink water almost exclusively, eat 1/4 cup dried cranberries almost daily and am active but have put on some weight recently and that tends to increase difficulty emptying my bladder. During a four day CE course in mid January, I felt like my right kidney was adhered to my rib. It was not hot or tender to the touch, but it just kind of felt stuck when I moved. Over two or three weeks, that feeling continued and a tenderness when I would touch my floating rib area on the right developed along with stronger smelling urine. Two weeks ago, I was seen at urgent care (after testing with AZO test strips myself) and diagnosed with a UTI and given Bactrim DS bid x 10 days. After 5days I had no improvement. After 7 days I retested with AZO & was very positive for WBC & nitrite. Should I try another antibiotic? There is no pain urinating or burning, just feel like I’m tight and full thru my lower rib cage at times & it’s still hard to empty. I might sit for 20 minutes and per 4 times or pee, get up and in minutes feel urgent need again. What are your thoughts?
