I am an 84 year old man. My blood pressure has increased to 170/70 average over the last six months. Is this serious enough to cancel vacation? I'm having headaches and neck ache. Neurologist has prescibed neck massage and two 300mg capsules of Gabapentin per day.

Thanks for posting your query.
A blood pressure reading of 170/70 is not worrisome at your age. It is the rise of diastolic blood pressure which is more worrisome. Going for a vacation will help to decrease your stress and anxiety and will help in decreasing your systolic blood pressure.
Be sure to decrease your salt intake and indulge in daily exercise like brisk walking for at least 40 minutes.
You need to consult your physician for a suitable anti hypertensive medication since this rise of blood pressure is persistent.
You can also start with neck strengthening exercises after consulting your physiotherapist to reduce the neck pain and headaches.
Hope this answers your query. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Please accept my answer in case you do not have further queries.
Wishing you good health.
