Question: Son played football and felt pressure on his back yesterday and getting out of the shower today he felt a pop in the area and now has severe pain what is this and does he need medical attention immediately

Yes it is better to get medical attention at the earliest possible. That could be because of disc herniation etc.

Ask him to lay down on a firm surface. Give him a over the counter analgesic that is available to you. Call for help to take him to the doctor.
