Dr. XXXXXXX First I "ask A Doctor" A Question About

Question: Dr. XXXXXXX First I "ask a doctor" a question about my problems with Agent Orange and was very pleased with the assistance I received from Dr. XXXXXXX Saghafi on the staff. That is the reason I'm asking for you opinion.
I'm a 78 year old Male, 6 feet tall, weight 193 pounds. High Blood pressure and Type II Diabetes. I've other medical issues that I've also have under control. I do not drink and have never smoked.
My current medications are: Rosuvatatin Calcium 20Mg, HBP; Lisinopril 10Mg, Amlodipine Besylate 10Mg, Chlorthalidone 25Mg,. Neuropathy; Gabapentin 600 Mg, Type II Diabetes; Metformin 500 Mg.
Six months ago I was taking Glipizide XL 20 Mg Type II Diabetes and my weight at that time was 232 pounds. In XXXXXXX of this year, 5 months ago I went on a restricted diet reducing my Carbohydrates intake to zero and reduced my daily intake of 8 grams of proteins, 8 grams of vegetables and 8 grams of low sugar fruit daily. Also I increased my intake of water to least 64 Ounces daily .I remain on this diet today.
About a month ago my weight was down to 210 and at that time at my annual medical examination my GP changed my diabetic medication from Glipizide to Metformin 500Mg daily. My weight continued to drop and after 5 months today I'm now at 194 pounds. Basically I've lost between 36 to 40 pounds. Last week I began noticing a slight dizziness/light headiness and dry mouth in the mornings. During the day I feel like I'm in a fog. A couple of times at night I wake to a very dry throat. I'm going to test my blood sugar this afternoon with a machine I ordered is delivered to my house. Honestly I've never thought a Type II needed testing daily because even if there was something wrong I was not informed what I could do for myself.
I have attempted to find an endocrinologist in my area but an appointment is four weeks out. My GP also doesn't appeared concerned when I informed him of the situation. My daughter who is a type I diabetic under complete control has her own opinions on what could be causing these problems. I'd like to hear you professional opinion. I've a feeling it could be the new medication and low intake of this diet. In 10 days I'm off on a ship for a month and I've got to get a handle on this issue before I go. Would appreciate you thoughts on my situation. Regards XXXXXXX Puckett

Brief Answer:
About high blood glucose values;

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I have gone carefully through your concern.
The symptoms you described are suggestive for high blood sugar levels but it should be confirmed by checking it.
Usually, loosing weight improves significally the blood sugar but there may be causes such as urinary infection for eg. that increase it! The medications are not the cause of your weight loss.
So, check the blood glucose today and let me know. If it is high I will suggest some exams to try to find the cause and suggest about the treatment until you see your physician.
It will be a pleasure to help you further.
Regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
