1. The most probable reason that you have vertigo may be related to the stroke.

2. The balance centers are in the brain stem hence an MR Angiogram and Neck Color Doppler Study should be done. Are you on blood thinning medication and anti-vertigo medication?

3. Is your vertigo spinning or just unsteadiness.

4. Get your ears examined and get Audiometry tests done. A VideoNystagmoGraphy (VNG) and a Video Head Impulse Test (VHIT) can be done.

5. Ear related (peripheral) vertigo is usually spinning type, of short duration, with change of position against gravity while brain related (central) vertigo tends to last for hours to days, even while walking and does not decrease on repititive motion.

6. You should bring this to the attention of the doctors who treated the stroke. Thyroid function can be checked but is unlikely to be the direct cause. Get your blood pressure checked.
