Does Sleeping With The TV On Cause Any Sleep Disorders?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Nov 2017
Question: XXXXXXX has the bad habit of sleeping with the tv on in her room. I understand that maybe she has gotten used to needing it on to fall asleep, however, she wakes up whenever it gets shut off and turns it back on. no matter how deep a sleep she seems to be in, she wakes up. Even the middle of the night. My concern is that it will affect her brain for learning. Is that possible? Isn't the brain not resting properly if it's perceiving all that sound and could that be why she's a light sleeper, because the tv is preventing her from a deep sleep/ Can it cause a learning disability/

Brief Answer:
problems in learning are a consequence

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in HealthcareMagic

Yes i can understand your concern

Sleeping with tv on or with noises affects the quality of the process of sleep in se.

In her age she should sleep for up to 12 hours and the process should be full and in normal circumstances.

If not than the other day as a consequence she will be tired and not concentrated in learning.
I am trying to say that problems in learning are as a result not directly related.

Try to avoid tv from her room and during daytime too.

So what you're saying is , that problems learning are the result of not sleeping deeply enough or long enough, no matter what the reason is? And that the actual sound itself would not be the cause? But so the sound does prevent a deep enough sleep as to affect learning and concentrating so its only the sleep quality and not an actual brain issue?

Brief Answer:
yes exactly

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Yes exactly.

The first step will be the regulation of the sleep cycle, i mean in its quality and quantity.

Then after some time you will see the results i am sure.

If not than it will be the case to see a neuro pediatrician to examine her further if needed.
