Does Anxiety Cause Low Heart Rate Along With Weight Loss?

Posted on Fri, 20 Feb 2015
Question: Hi I have had several tests done on my heart. Stress tests , 2 echos, 10 ecgs, 2 holter monitors. My tests all came back normal. The holter monitor showed 200 PACS and 15 isolated PVC. I am worried because my resting heart rate is 52-55 . I am not an athlete. I have lost 75 lbs over tthehe last 10 months through good diet. I am scared that I have sick sinus syndrome or heart block but my cardiologist says I'm fine. I don't feel fine I am very anxious and scared. My heart rate went down to 41 during sleep at 2:45 AM. Doctor still says this is all normal and I shouldn't worry. That is not easy for me as I suffer from extreme anxiety. Could anxiety cause a slower resting heart rate along with the high amount of weight loss?

Brief Answer:
It does not happen in that way

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

Anxiety may cause weight loss but it does not cause slowed heart rate. In majority of the patients anxiety either causes increased heart rate or no change in heart rate.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
Thanks and regards

I'm really worried because the cardiologist tells me my heart is healthy. So I'm not sure if it is because of the weight loss or not. I'm constantly in a state of high anxiety right mow

Brief Answer:
Not every deviation from normal is disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

I understand your concern about the bradycardia despite not being an athlete. I must inform you that not every deviation is disease. On similar lines heart rate below 60 is seen in around 2-3 % of population and it has shown that they do not not suffer from anything. In this prospect it can be said that Low heart rate is not a disease unless otherwise symptomatic.

As I can see from your description you do not have any symptom and Bradycardia is isolated finding. Considering all these facts and your cardiologist opinion I must inform you that this is not a pathological condition and you can stop worrying about it.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
