Does Flagyl Help Cure Bronchial Infection?

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Nov 2016
Question: Got C.diff which I believe started on the 7th day of a 10 day prescription.
Complained to provider who in total had me wait another 8 days for stool culture
Before giving Phlagyl. Horrible experience. Am 64. Why not prescribe Phlagyl as it
could have aided initial sinus and bronchial infection

Brief Answer:
Flagyl only covers the atypical organisms

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for posting your question on Health Care Magic.
Actually Flagyl just covers atypical organisms, it doesn't have a broad coverage as cephalosporin.
Bronchial infection needs a broader coverage.
Very unfortunate that you got C.diff due to the antibiotic.
Drug of choice for C.diff is flagyl.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes

Brief Answer:
He wanted confirmation before starting

Detailed Answer:
Hello again ,though that could have been done maybe he didn't want to give you an extra antibiotic and maybe he thought it is just simple gastric irritation due to antibiotic.
He didn't want to start unless the infection was confirmed.
Nevertheless full course of flagyl is recommended now.
Best wishes

Maybe I didn't ask correctly.

Why didn't prescriber add Phlagyl to the Ceftin treatment at
the time I visited complaining of diareeah, abdominal and intestinal
issues, at worst it could have boosted Ceftin. I suffered many days
for no reason with the C Diff waiting for a stool culture which delayed
treatment with Phlagyl

being 64 and the added dangers of C Diff possible
I feel it would have been prudent and merciful with few
negative issues to immediately add Phlagyl to the
Ceftin.

Would love to share my C diff with this doctor. I bet her
prescribing practices would change
