Question: Do liquid supplements cause acid reflux? Like magnesium, vitamin b, fish oil. Also herbal supplements like ashwagandha with 60 percent grain alcohol or glycerin ethanol, could these liquid supplements cause reflux? I have severe acid reflux. I'm on nexium but it doesn't always work. I have to watch what I eat as well.

Brief Answer:
I suggest trial and error

Detailed Answer:
Hi Terrymalibu,

I do not believe that the supplements you take would cause reflux. However, you can try avoiding one of the medicines at the time for a few days to weeks and see if it helps. Especially for the ashwaghanda I am not sure if it could cause reflux. Another thing: Have you ever had a gastroscopy? severe reflux can be caused by a hiatal hernia, that sometimes require surgery.

Best wishes.

I have a hiatal hernia doc. I've had a couple endoscopies. Are I get difficulty swallowing and a lump in my throat feeling if I get reflux. I just don't want to take anything that might cause it. I should probably get another endoscopy just to see where I'm at with it. Or maybe an ENT, I feel like I get it in my throat bigtime.

So you don't think the liquid form of any of these supplements would cause acid reflux? Even with the grain alcohol and glycerin ethanol?

Brief Answer:
ENT and gastroscopy sounds ideal

Detailed Answer:
Hi again Terrymalibu,

It would make sense to repeat the gastroscopy and assess your reflux and hernia. ENT may be a good idea, but I would wait til after the gastroscopy. In terms of the supplements you mention, I suggest you try avoiding one at the time for a few days to weeks to see if it helps.

Hope this helps.
