Question: I have shooting ear pain, an itchy rash developing on my forehead and near eye, throat and ear pain when I swallow liquids, temperature is running low 96.4 ... what could this be? should I seek medical treatment? Thanks so much for your time

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

That description of shooting pain (which indicate nerve involvement) and rash in that area does raise the suspicion of a XXXXXXX Hunt syndrome, a name which is used for a shingles infection which involves the facial nerve, it can be associated with throat pain and difficulty swallowing as well. It is the same virus which causes the chickenpox in children, which may lay dormant in nerve cells and reactivate in adults involving a peripheral nerve.

Medical treatment (or at least evaluation to confirm my suspicion) is necessary because the condition may develop complications such as facial muscle weakness, hearing issues, chronic pain. Treatment lowers the risk of these complications, usually a course of corticosteroids and an antiviral are used.
