Can The Use Of Dexilant Cause Swollen Uvula?

Question: Good Day,

I'm a male of 37 years old, 5f 6 inches, 180lbs and quite active. I have been on Olmetec for my High Blood pressure for 3 years now with no issues. Average pressure is now 120/75 instead of the 160/119 before.

2 years ago, I had an episode of swollen uvula which needed me to go to the hospital. They never found the problem. We been searching the potential cause of this issue in the last year and finally I was sent to an allergist. All the tests has been negative (except for pollen allergy).

However, the allergist suggested that Olmetec was potentially the cause. He asked to switch to Amlodipine, which I have done on March 29th . And well, since the last 2 days it is not going very well. I have now hot flashes, my face is much more red, and I feel an oppression... and it clearly feels bad as I was before consulting for HBP 3 years ago. My pressure is now 143/89, and was 140/91 this morning.

I will go see my family doctor next week, but it's problematic now. Should I switch back to Olmetec now? Should I used both? Is it possible that Olmetec works well for HBP for me but not Amlodipine?

I have been diagnosed with a mild GERD which is now treated with Dexilant... could this have been a potential cause for Swollen Uvula?

Brief Answer:
Switch back to Olmetec until you see your doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I think it is a good idea to switch back to Olmetec, as you have side effects of Amlodipin.
If Olmetec worked well for your blood pressure, and you have no other episode of swollen uvula since two years, I think you could safely continue with Olmetec.
Anyway you can switch back to Olmetec until you see your doctor.

Wishing you good health

Hi,

This is definitively my plan to go back, however I'm a bit curious about your answer if I may. I do not believe that I have "side effects" of Amlodipine... I believe it just doesn't work at all. My current symptoms I feel right now are exactly the same I feelt 3-4 years ago before any medication, which was the reason I had consulted a doctor and got put on Olmetec.

Now, I understand that it is very clear. If it doesn't work; stop doing it. :) I guess my question is about how this can be, or if you have any hypothesis on why I responded very well to Olmetec but it looks like I'm not responding at all to Amlodipine. Both are supposed to lower drop pressure, although I believe its a different mechanism...

I will switch back but if you have any idea on the above let me know.

Eric

Welcome back

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

It is very individual, for every patient, there are medications that can work well, while the others not, especially in arterial hypertension.
Different medications have different mechanisms. And arterial hypertension in different patients are caused by different mechanisms, that's why different medications can have different influence on blood pressure.

Take care
