Brief Answer:
will not cause it but caution is used if applying to a person who has lupus

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

NO, there is no danger of getting lupus but caution is used in persons with a known history of lupus or other autoimmune conditions (rheumatoid arthritis, dermatomyositis etc)

This means, it will not give a person lupus but though it can sometimes be used in persons with lupus, the doctor would need to be careful.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Since I have osteoarthritis, an autoimmune condition I think, would it be better
not to use Hyaluronic Acid for cosmetic reasons?

Answered by Dr. Michelle Gibson James (4 hours later)
Brief Answer:
osteoarthritis is not an autoimmune disorder

Detailed Answer:
HI

Osteoarthritis is not classified as an autoimmune type of arthritis. It is mainly due to wear and tear of the joints.

An autoimmune disorder is one where the body is essentially fighting or reacting against itself, it attacks itself. eg lupus, RA, scleroderma, some types of thyroid disease, multiple sclerosis

Thank you for answering my questions re hyaluronic acid.

Now I want to ask if statins can cause or contribute to dementia?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Michelle Gibson James (9 hours later)
Brief Answer:
do not cause but also do not lower the risk of development either

Detailed Answer:
HI

Sorry about the delayed reply

There are different types and causes of dementia.

One of the types, vascular dementia, is due to blocks in some of the very small blood vessels in the brain. Blocks in these small blood vessels then affects the areas of the brain that they are supposed to supply.
Some doctors suggest that statins, because they lower cholesterol and therefore reduce blockages, should help prevent this type of dementia but this has not been proven.

IN terms of alzheimers, this has been linked to high cholesterol as well for some persons but still the cholesterol meds do not lower the risk.

Statins do not cause dementia but they also do not lower the risk either though they lower cholesterol
