Can Xarelto Cause An Increase In PSA Levels?

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Apr 2017
Question: I have superficial thrombosis....am on Xeralto....I workout in the gym...I am working out my left side (no clot) with weights and doing cardio but not my right side where the clot runs superficially across my frontal delt down my bicep...is it ok to do the cardio and lift weights? It has been 3 1/2 weeks since the Xeralto treatment was initiated. Also I just found out my PSA was 5.8. Can Xeralto cause the PSA to increase? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Xarelto does not have side effect of increasing PSA.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

You have been taking Xarelto an anti coagulant as a treatment for superficial vein thrombosis .

Xarelto prevents intra vascular clotting hence can be safely taken .You can continue your moderate exercises .

Your recent PSA is higher than normal value of 4 .It can be due to enlarged prostate which is common at this age .

Raised PSA is always suspected to be due to Cancer of the prostate unless proved otherwise by doing a ultrasound guided Prostate Biopsy .However it can get raised when one has enlarged prostate ,

Take antibiotic like Nitrofurantoin and Ciprofloxacin twice daily for 10 days and repeat PSA test .

If it remains persistently high Consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Trans Rectal Ultrasound Scanning (TRUS)

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
