Can Levaquin Be Used In Place Of Z-pack?

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Oct 2016
Question: Can Levaquin aid in killing the bacteria.
I was on Z pack and it helped while I was on it but the swollen glands and tightness of the chest seem to linger and an inhaler seems to help.
Advise since I have Levaquin at my disposal

Brief Answer:
it's more potent than z-pack

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

levaquin is a more potent antibiotic than z-pack. It is usually reserved for patients with serious medical history (like COPD, heart disease, etc). In such patients less potent drugs (like z-pack) may be ineffective. Since it is a potent antibiotic I would recommend talking to your doctor first before taking it. Improper use of such antibiotics may increase the resistance of pathogens in the community and lead to the formation of super-bugs that won't be vulnerable to antibiotics.
