Can Duphaston Be Taken During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Oct 2016
Question: Hi,

Doctor recommended to take Duphaston tablets after getting positive pregnancy test result. This is because during first pregnancy my wife got little bleeding and doctor suggested Proluton depot injection and Sustain tablets. Now in the second pregnancy as a measure of precaution doctor
suggested two Duphaston tablets per day for two weeks.
Is it safe to take these tablets? Will there be any risk on child's growth? As my wife din't have any bleeding yet is it okay to take these tablets?

Thanks,
XXXX

It is safe

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Duphastone is progesterone which is given to make the uterine environment more favourable for the fetus.
It is completely safe for the fetus and the mother when taken in pregnancy.
There will be no effect on the fetal growth.
Duphastone can be taken as a precautionary measure to avoid any bleeding.
There is nothing to worry.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Hi Doctor,

Thanks for the quick response. I have one more question. My wife is feeding the baby for about 20 mins a day. Baby is 1 year 3 months old. Is it okay to feed the baby while taking Duphastone tablets?

Also what food would be better to keep the Hemoglobin count high during the pregnancy?

Thanks,
