Brief Answer:
You may give formula feeds with spoon or small glass

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

I completely understand your concerns but don't worry. The reasons for poor weight gain in your infant may be:
1. Inadequate feeds or improper feeding
2. Flatulance due to inadequate burping leading to poor appetite and discomfort
3. Illness (less likely as he is active as per your description)

The most common reason for such complaints is improper breastfeeding. Many a times babies get more fore milk( thin milk rich in water and sugars) than hind milk ( rich in fats and proteins) leading to poor weight gain and unsatisfaction in babies. This happens due to incomplete feeding from one breast and changing to the other side frequently. So, ensure complete feeding from each breast.

Always burp in middle of feeds and after feeds properly. Ensure good nutrition and plenty of fluids for yourself.

In case the baby still seems to be hungry, then you may give properly constituted formula milk ( Nan Pro, Lactodex, Enfamil stage 1) with katori- spoon or small glass ( as he is not accepting bottles). Maintain good hygiene to avoid infections.

There is no proven benefit of Bestozyme, ghutti, gripe water. So avoid them.

To start him on complementary feeds, use rice water, thin puried fruits, dal water for a few days. Then gradually increase the thickness and introduce newer food products very gradually. This will make baby more acceptable.

Hopefully this will help you. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
Take care

thank you doctor. my baby always feel hungry after breast feeding in 15 mins. I need to return office but since he doesn't take bottle it is very difficult for me.
1) is similac advance not good for him?
2)since he doesn't sit on his own...i had to lay him over a pillow..slanting...so cannot feed using glass. using spoon he locks his lips tightly or do a kullla of that.
3)since he is 5+ months..can i start any medicine to ease him in teething affects.
4) for solids...he does the same as 2) that is locks lips or spill over everything. please suggest.
5)is there any way i may increase his appetite?

Brief Answer:
Start using baby high chair and give probiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Similac is as good as other products I suggested. So you may give it.

Start feeding him on baby high chair. It's more appropriate way and also acceptable.

Give him Vitamin D3 drops(400IU) daily if you are not already giving him. There is no need for any other medicine for teething troubles which usually start after 6 months of age.

Start him on probiotic such as enterogermina once daily for next1 week. This will boost his appetite and relieve his discomfort.

Never force feed. It will negatively impact his feeding habits. Offer feeds every 3-4 hours. Give when he demands. Sing rhymes, talk to him to make it more enjoyable for him.

Don't worry. He will be fine.

Take care
