Can Azithromycin Be Taken For UTI?

Question: I suspect a uti. Have azithromiacin on hand. Can I use that?

Azithromycin is a broad spectrum antibiotic, but it has not much action against the kind of bacteria that usually cause UTI such as E. Coli,

The choice of medicine for UTI would be a quinolone like Ciprofloxacin.

These medicines require a prescription as an incorrect use can complicate the infection further.

So I urge you to consult your PCP or Urologist and get yourself examined and the these medicines prescribed.

Meanwhile, drink plenty of water, and cranberry juice.
