Brief Answer:
Trans-vaginal trauma may lead to lowered function.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

If there is some abdominal trauma, the ovaries are unlikely to get affected since they are situated in the pelvis and are well protected.

However, if there is trauma to the ovaries through the vagina, there is tissue reaction and this can lead to shrinkage. This method is sometimes used in IVF procedures to obtain better results. Here, lowered ovarian size ensues and this causes raised gonadotrophin levels, and better retrieval of oocytes in poor responders.

There is no abnormal embryo formation as trauma does not alter the genetic make up easily.

Hope I have clarified your query. Please feel free to contact for further information. I will be happy to help.

If I were to try to get pregnant is there any ultrasound or test that could be done to insure the ovarian stability/functioning? I only had discomfort after the injury mild aching no bleeding but my period was a week late last month. I think the injury happened in mid late Nov.

Brief Answer:
tests are available.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

Tests are available to check for proper ovarian function. You can have hormone profile, trans-vaginal sonogram and follicular studies to ensure proper ovulation.

The delay in the period could be due to the stress secondary to the injury.

Hope i have answered your query. Please get back if you need any more information. I will be ready to help.
