Are Earache And Vertigo Indicative Of Ear Infection With Labyrinthitis?

Question: 2 weeks ago I had quite a few episodes of vertigo so bad that I couldn't stand. They would last approximately 5 minutes. in addition my ears hurt inside and felt like a fluid was in there and were achy and pressure. the doctor saw no fluid in either ear, I had no fever, had not been sick prior, blew air in my ear and said it was bppv. thankfully the vertigo has stopped but I'm still dizzy and lightheaded and my ears still hurt and feel full of fluid. went back today and no fluid. same diagnosis. do you think something else is going on? bppv does cause ears to hurt, so I don't think these doctors are correct in their diagnosis. please advise.

From the complaints it seems to be middle ear infection with labyrinthitis.

The ear ache is due to middle ear pressure developed. Vertigo has disappeared so it is probably not bppv.

Please tell me do you have any history of nasal blockage or congestion or throat infection in the recent past?

Please tell me What medicines have you been taking so far so that I can suggest you better and prescribe you accordingly.

wouldn't one of the 3 different doctors have seen an infection during the exam? they said there was no redness or inflammation. also, where it is both ears that feel this way, could it really be labyrinthitis...I thought that happened in just 1 ear.

Hi,

Labyrinthitis is a type of inner ear infection and diagnosis is purely on the basis of complaints as there are no signs visible on examination.

It can involve 1 or both ears. Take tablet Betahistine twice daily for a week and tablet promethazine twice daily for a week.

You will definitely be benefited. All the medicines I have prescribed will be available only on prescription.
