What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes?

Hi Doc. I am an 18 year old male. About 3 years ago another male forcefully licked the underside of my penis coming right up to the head. He only got the chance to give it one lick and it never went into his mouth. At the moment I have swollen lymph nodes. Am I at risk for HIV?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
There is risk of HIV infection if the other male was HIV positive.
Lymph node enlargement in occur in HIV as well as other non-specific inflammatory conditions.
If there is suspicion of HIV, the test for HIV should be done.
Besides HIV test an aspiration cytology of the lymph node should be done.
The aspiration cytology samples the cells of the lymph node.
The cells are spread on glass slide and examined.
The nature of lesion is determined and hence further treatment can be instituted.

Thanks and take care
