Why to not smoke marijuana before a hysterectomy ?

Hi doctor why would a doctor ask that I stop smoking marijuana 24 hours before my planned hysterectomy? I smoke it to unwind and to settle my nerves I feel like I need to do so before bed with my surgery being in the morning. Is there a danger in smoking marijuanna 8 hours before my surgery is scheduled?
