What To Do For Headache, Scalp Turned Red After Falling Down?

My 11-year-old son slipped on ice and hit his head on the sidewalk. He did not lose consciousness, or show any signs of concussion other than headache. It's been about 8 hours since the fall, and his scalp is vey red at the injury site. And reason for concern?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are certain criteria that are used to determine whether a CT scan is necessary after head trauma. One of them is called the new orleans criteria. With that a CT or further investigations are necessary if any of the following are present: (1) vomiting

(2)headache

(3)age over 60

(4)alcohol or drug use

(5)memory loss

(6)seizure

(7)visible trauma above the clavicle- this is any evidence of injury such as an abrasion, laceration, contusion.
Based on your description, though he may not necessarily need imaging, you may want to take him to his doctor for assessment.

I hope this helps
