What Does Light Brown Vaginal Discharge Indicate?

I have had light brown discharge last few days (day 12 to 14). I don't normally have this. Could this be due to taking gonal f (225) in my last cycle for iui? I've done three cycles of I've but had never taken gonal f before. I am approaching my 40 th birthday soon

Hi,

Usually, Gonal f containing follicle stimulating hormone can have effects on the menstrual cycle in which it was given. It may not affect further cycles. The possible causes of your brown discharge are:
- Ovulatory bleeding due to reproductive hormonal fluctuation at that time.
- Inter-menstrual spotting due to a withdrawal effect of reproductive hormonal fluctuation on endometrium because of age related changes.
- Local causes like cervical erosion, polyps etc.

Usually this may not recur and do not need treatment. If it recurs with increasing severity in next cycles, better to get evaluated. Clinical examination, ultrasound can give a preliminary idea regarding the problem. If further needed assessment of levels of Estrogen, Progesterone, LH and FSH can be done and treatment can be planned accordingly.
