What Does Blood Count Being Normal After Having Unprotected Sex Mean?
hi I had unprotected sex 4 years ago and I'm scared of HIV I had done the test 2 days ago and im waiting for the result but what I wanted to ask is I had a full blood count 2 years ago and it came back normal they just said I need folic acid I know that full vlood count don't detect HIV but if I had it would it come back abnormal and what are the chances of me having HIV if blood count came back normal but just need folic acid
Let me tell you certain important points regarding HIV: After an unprotected intercourse if the person acquires HIV then the antibodies appear maximum of 8-10 weeks then these antibodies to HIV virus persist throughout life.
The protocol of the antibody tests done for HIV is as follows: One HIV antibody test at 6-8 weeks and then a follow up final test at 3 months (84 days or 12 weeks). Antibodies once formed to HIV can never disappear. So if a person has HIV infection, 3 months of period is the time when we say to be fully sure of whether HIV is present or not.
Now correlating all the facts and interpreting with your situation: At present whatever the result would be final. As it is 4 years since the incidence so we are way beyond 3 months limit. A blood count would not be able to interpret the HIV results. A confirmatory HIV antibody test is must to give you final result.
For your low blood count you can take folic acid otherwise also.
HI Well come to HCM If your concern is just HIV then this is least concern with the routine blood test, you can not compare this in that way, one has to go for the particular test to rule out the possibility of this, neither this is any thing to do with the folic acid, HVI test is complete different method and matter, hope this information helps, take care.
