What Could Cause A Nipple Discharge, And Small Bumps On The Areola Area?
My 23 year old daughter is experiencing some nipple discharge as well as some changes to the small bumps on her areola area (what are those called by the way? can't find any info on that. I have them too and when breastfeeding they would secrete a clear liquid I was told moisturized my nipples so I would just rub it in). On her they occasionally swell and either burst and secrete a pus or just go down on their own but remain there. She has not yet been sexually active.
Breast discharge could be due to infections, tumour like growth or hormonal reasons. All these causes should be ruled out.Since the hormonal levels are normal, histopathological examination and culture and sensitivity of the discharge should be done.
Intraductal papilloma should also be ruled out. These are noncancerous growths in the ducts of the breast. They are the most common reason women experience abnormal nipple discharge. When they become inflamed, intraductal papillomas may result in nipple discharge that contains blood or is sticky in texture.
