What Causes Zero MPV Count In Mens?

What could cause a 33 year old male's MPV to drop to 0? This count was taken twice in four days and both times came back zero? Patient was recently diagnosed with thrombocytopenia, platelet count was 32 and 29 when counts were taken at 0 MVP. Also, patient had been off steroids for eight and twelve days, respectively, and taking no other medications.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Mean platelet volume is a measurement of average size of platelets.
2. Abnormally low MPV can be seen in thrombocytopenia, as production is impaired.
3. In immune destruction of platelets, it will increased due to presence of giant platelets. Absence of giant platelets could indicate better prognosis.
4. Repeat test after a week for further evaluation. The present zero MPV is possibly due to non-evaluation by the machine due to thrombocytopenia.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
