HI MY HUSBAND aged 30 MET WITH A BIKE ACCIDENT WHILE TRAVELLINGFROM BANGALORE TO CHENNAI NEAR VELLORE, IN EARLY HOURS HITTING IN THE BACK OF THE LORRY, THE PERSON WHO DROVE THE LORRY WORE HELMET AND LOST HIS LEFE, BUT MY HUSBAND SURVIVED (WITHOUT HELMET IN BACK SEAT)WITH SKULL FRACTURE. HE WAS ADMITTED IN CMC VELLOR FOR 2 WEEKS AND THEN THEY TOLD THAT HE SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY EPILEPSY, FEVER, OR CSF LEAK VIA NOSE, TONGUE, BUT HE DID NOT HAVE ANY OF THESE SYMPTOMS FOR NOW AND REGULARLYTAKING EPITOME TABLET FOR ATLEAST A YEAR AS TOLD BY DOCTORS.
Discharge summary report-
Mild head injury .Left frontal compound depressed fracture.
Fracture of the roof of the left orbit pneumocphalus.
There was fracture on left frontal sinus.
There was laceration of 6*2cm with left frontal left area with depressed fracture under it. Spine examination showed no tenderness or deformity.
History-
9/10/10 he met with accident. no history of seizures, no other fracture or past illness.
Now currently- he is having numbness in this both hands especially his palms for the past 2 and half weeks. I took it lightly as my husband kept telling that his numbness is been continuous for weeks, and again now he is telling that when he stretches his head in the front, he feels some sort of a current moving field in his back hip spine region. This is been for the past one week. Could you please let me know what this is? And is it very critical or serious were he needs to undergo any treatment? Please let me know is this any symptom to some nerve weakening or tear or some complication?

Hi,

I am Dr.Bruno and let me answer your question.

The present complaints are

1. Numbness in both hands
2. Shock like sensation

Both these symptoms point out to a problem in his spinal cord in neck region

-

this may or may not be related to his previous injury

1. May be there was a whiplash injury during accident and that has caused myelopathy

2. May be he had mild CERVICAL spondylosis or CVJn anamoly which has been increased due to trauma and caused a syrinx

3. May be he has multiple sclerosis

-

He needs to consult a Neurosurgeon for physical examination and he may need further investigations to find the exact cause
