I just had a C-section at 37 weeks. Prior to that, my feet have been numb for about 3 months, I figured it was from sciatica. The swelling has finally gone down, but my feet and toes are still numb. Is this normal, and what can I do to make it go away?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. IF the sciatic pain was present during pregnancy..it would go after delivery. But the fact that it's still continuing indicates a treatment of sciatica. You need to consult a orthopedic doctor. After examination & investigations like X ray spine.. he will find the cause & advise you treatment accordingly. It usually consists of anti inflammatory drugs to take care of the pain/ vitamin B12 pills or injections /calcium & vitamin D supplements as per need & physiotherapy. This usually helps .. Some times spinal surgery is needed to relieve the problem. Thanks.
