What Causes Numbness And Tingling In Arms And Hands With Joint Pain?

I have been experiencing numbness and tingling in my arms and hands mostly but my neck feels very stiff. And a lot of joint pain throughout my body. I ve been attributing it to perimenopausal symptoms, which I think is true to some extent, but also wondering about my posture and stress and nerve damage.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Numbness in the hands and fingers may be as a result of a compression of a nerve (most commonly as it exits from the neck or any where along it's course like at the wrist) or a neuropathy as a result of a systemic disease like Diabetes or thyroid disfunctions especially when it is uncontrolled.

With increasing use of hand held devices such as smart phones or tablets, there has been an increasing incidence of carpal tunnel syndromes and cervical radiculopathies. You may consult a Neurologist or an Orthopedic surgeon to arrive at a proper diagnosis and effective treatment thereafter.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Cardiologist Dr. Ilir Sharka's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms could be related to chronic degenerations of the cervical vertebral column or to a bulging disc in this region. For this reason, I recommend performing a cervical spine MRI. It is also necessary checking vitamin D for possible deficiency and performing an osteodensitometry.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
