Hi I went to the doctor with extreme pain in my ear and headaches. Come to find out I had an ear infection and received medication. After three weeks I still have popping in my left year and called my doctor for an opinion. She told me that it appears I have TMJ and gave me several medications to take to help ease the pain. Its been a month and the popping and headache is still there. Every once in a while there is discharge. Could it be something else or should I contact my dentist??
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
Aa per your complain in case if you have ear ache, popping and even discharge from ears it indicates that you have ear infection as TMJ does not cause ear discharge.. You should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and an Otoscopic examination followed by antibiotics and painkillers and antibiotic ear drops. The Infectious fluid can also be drained off manually by the Physician for faster relief.. In case if still there is no resolution and TMJ is suspected then a full mouth x Ray known as ORTHOPANTOMOGRAM can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
