What Are The Tests To Check For Hirsutism?

Hi I m 19 years old soon to be 20 and I believe i have hirsutism. It is the only condition that describes my excessive facial hair growth and belly hair growth. I menstrual cycle has been normal over the years and the only abnormalities seem to be that I loose and gain weight rapidly but it has not been in an excess of 7 pounds. What is the best thing for me to do with respect to confirming that I do have hirsutism?

Hi,

You need to go for hormonal profile to find out the cause of hirsutism. I would recommend you to go for total and free testosterone, serum dehydroepiansrostetone, thyroid function tests, fasting blood sugar levels, fasting insulin levels, serum prolactin levels and ultrasound pelvis.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, Dermatologist
