Hi,

Ovarian TB is a very rare type of genital TB. Usually, its presence may be more in developing countries. The presence of TB of upper genital canal including ovaries is not usually seen in developed countries, however, it may be present frequently in countries of ASIA & AFRICA continents.

The common symptoms like weight loss, fatigue, low grade fever & infertility may be present in this condition. The clinical finding in most cases of ovarian tuberculosis may be- presence of pelvic fluid, pelvic adhesions, ascites or multi-septate masses. As these symptoms may be due to presence of pelvic inflammatory disease due to multiple causes. Hence to find a definitive cause DNA PCR of menstrual blood is essential. It is desired to confirm/rule out presence of TB and this is the reason, that it has been rightly advised by your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
