What Are The Side Effects Of Nexplanon?

I was recently put on the nexplanon birth control, 2 weeks ago. I have not had a period since November. The past few mornings I've been waking up around 6-7AM and feeling nauseous or cramping so unbearably bad; my breast are tender, swollen, the areola is darkening, and the nipple is bigger. I was wondering if maybe this is a side effect or am I possibly pregnant?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are experiencing the side effects of the Nexplanon implant. Side effects are breast tenderness & pain, abdominal pain, depression, vaginal infection, depression, fluid retention, liver disease, ectopic pregnancy, etc.

The side effects should subside as the body adjusts with the implant. Sometimes when the side effects get worse, implants need to be removed so get re-checked. You should get a pregnancy test done if you had unprotected sex.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
