Watch Out For Concussions In A Child Who Has Injured Head And Chest Area?

An 8 year old after blowing bubbles in circles preceeded to fall down twice. A short time after he was running with his new puppy and crashed hard into the basketball 6 steel pole...it knocked the wind out of him and applied ice packs to his head and chest area. Does it require dr visit or will they just tell us to watch for signs of concussion .

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

As there is head injury, observe for signs of brain injury like vomitings, sensorium, seizures, abnormal or altered behavior, bleeding from nose, ears, and decreased movements of limbs and if you find any report immediately to emergency.

As there is chest injury also . look for difficulty breathing, cough, or any local tenderness or crepitus.

I advise you to go for physical examination of the child to examine for abnormal signs of significant head and chest injury and treatment.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
