Unexplained Bruising On The Upper Arm. No Injury. Have Slight Numbness In The Arms. Causes?

Hi, for several months I have had unexplained bruising on my upper inner arms from just under the armpit and down the bicep. The bruises are the size of finger tips . There is no obvious blunt force trauma, and there is no pain, though there is a slight feeling of numbness in the arms. I m not on any medication . What could be the cause?

Hi Ckides,
Welcome back to Heathcare Magic Physician's Desk!

The easy bruisability is suggestive of a disorder of coagulation profile.
Please get your CBC and peripheral blood smear detail reported.
Platelet counts may be low due to ITP, Hematological malignancy etc.
You should get a quick referral because such bleeding can take place in brain or abdomen as well leading to serious consequences.

Wish you a great health!

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Saurabh Gupta's  Response
Hello and Welcome to HCM,
Thanks for writing to us.
Unexplained appearance of bruises without any history of injury can happen due to platelet dysfunction or recent viral illness, drug intake or a bleeding disorder. Detailed examination and blood investigations are entailed to detect the cause. So I suggest you to consult your doctor soon for thorough evaluation.
Hope this helps you.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.
Dr Saurabh Gupta.
Orthopaedic Surgeon.
