Hi maarkjp

You wrote that your symptoms occur "I often see it when i am stressed, lack of sleep, mad, irritated, tired etc". What you call "twitching nerves" maybe are muscle twitching in the face and head. These are symptoms of over stress or hectic life-style.
You can decrease you symptoms by:
•     Sleep not less than 8 hours
•     Decrease alcohol, coffee, smoking, recreation glugs (if you use them)
•     Drink 2 liters of fluids such as plain water, herbal tea, soups
•     Increase physical activity
For patient like you I do acupuncture, electro acupuncture, manual therapy for neck, ear lobe and scalp acupuncture. I usually recommend nutritional supplementation with some vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino and fatty acids some herbal formulas. Your brain and nerves need nutrients for proper work Custom CD hypnoses for self-hypnose at home also can be helpful.
I wish you Good Health
