At first the bleeding was light but as days go by they are becoming heavy and darker in colour. This is the eightth day of my mid cycle dark and heavy bleeding with left lower quadrant pian. I'm very afraid....what really is The problem with me?
Emergency contraception is generally effective if taken within 72 hours of intercourse however its effectiveness increases the sooner it is used. Since you used it the morning after intercourse, it should be highly effective.
Emergency contraception is 85% effective if taken within the first 72 hours.
Because it is a hormonal medication , there can be alteration in menstrual bleeding with its use. This may be the reason for the extended bleeding that you are experiencing.
It would be best to consider a form of contraception such as the oral contraceptive, injection, patches, condoms, intrauterine devices. These all have higher rates of pregnancy prevention than the emergency contraceptive.
I hope this helps
