The Diffence Between Rosuvastatin (Crestor) And Atorvastatin?

I would like to know what is the diffence between Rosuvastatin (Crestor) and Atorvastatin is please. Just my husband who has been on Crestor for years has been told by the doctor that they are changing him to Atorvastatin. Now he has been on that tablet for years and it does not seem to be doing him any harm why would they change his medication?

Both the drugs are used to lowers the level of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Rosuvastatin was more efficacious than the same dose of atorvastatin. There was no significant difference between rosuvastatin and a 4 times higher dose of atorvastatin. There were no significant differences between both for adverse events.
Also Rosuvastatin is more useful in diabetes and reduced LDL-C levels significantly more than atorvastatin during the fixed-dose.
Rosuva reduces LDL and triglycerides in blood while Atorva reduces T. Cholesterol and Triglycerides more effectively according to the study.
In my opinion Rosivastatin is better than Atorvastatin. The change is made because may be your lipid components are normal in range and you may not need higher drug for that. It can be keep in standby to be used in future.
Rest consult your doctor for better reason for changing the drug.
