Hi, doc am a nigerian.my dad is passing loose motion for 9 days now.At first we thought it was diarrhoea or dysentry and treated him subsequently but after all treatment with trusted antibacteria drugs and antibiotics the motion pesisted when it is obvious he has not taken food for days, but this time a dark mucous filled faeces.Though my dad has a history of being hepartitis B postive and had a prostate(not cancer)surgery in 2002 he is also asmathic..my dad seem to be wreathing in pains though no problem has been found with the liver..my dad is also not aware of what is going on around him..they have suggested surgery,my dad is in his late seventies,my dad is weak for the X-ray and ECG according to the doctor..Doc i don t want to loose my dad now as am still a medical student and will like him see me graduate.Doc with what i have said so far what is wrong as he seem to be passing through sever abdominal pains, they suggested septecimia but the lab results are not out yet and while breathing his mouth are wide open..Doc what is it they are yet to try that could lead to the cure, please respond before long so that i can suggest that to them

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

If the infection is ruled out by the evaluation, inflammatory bowel condition and GI pathology is a striking second possibility.

I quote for the diagnostic colonoscopy for further management guidelines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
General Surgeon
