Suggest Treatment For Extreme Constipation With Frequent Bowel Movements
Hi, I have bowl movements 4-6 times a day. They are easy to pass and I have no trouble with them. I was worried about the frequency, so I went to my doctor. They did an x-ray which showed I was extremely constipated. I am very confused because I thought constipated was not having bowl movements?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Bowel movements of 4-6 times a day in spite of X-ray showing fecoliths can be due to spurious diarrhea, meaning the feces which have got stuck in the large bowel still give sufficient space for the stool to pass but the fecoliths are attached firmly to the colonic mucosa. This is not called constipation, these are called fecoliths in colon. The only way to remove these are: Saline and soap enema in a traditional way. You have to continue taking laxatives, high fibers and particularly the stool softeners. Have regular follow-ups and continue the treatment till cured of the problems. Once cleared, get a colonoscopy done to find out any primary cause that can cause such a problem.
