Suggest Treatment For A Large Multinodular Goiter

Hi,
I've been diagnosed with a large multinodular goiter on the right side of the thyroid gland which seems to be causing a persistent lump feeling in the back of throat for several weeks now, being more uncomfortable at night I also have some smaller nodules on the left side. Would surgery be indicated here?

Thankyou

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hi,

The indications of surgery include:
1. Large size (>4cm) nodules
2. Malignancy or suspicious FNAC (needle test)
3. Thyroid gland growing down into the chest cage
4. Pressure symptoms
5. Patient preference

If you have any of these you can consult a surgeon for opinion on surgical treatment

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

With warm regards,

Dr Ajish TP (MD,DM)
Consultant Endocrinologist.
